Do we assist with induction of labour?
From Dr Scott Fox’s (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine) experience in his clinic, that on average, it takes more than 4 Acupuncture treatments, to induce labour.
There are certain Acupuncture points that enhance contractions, Dilate the Cervix, to aid and bring the baby into the pelvis.

- Oxytocin is a hormone naturally produced by the brain (Hypothalamus) and released into the blood stream by the brain (pituitary gland). oxytocin then travels via blood to your cervix and initiate contractions of the cervix.
- Acupuncture creates this reaction.
Is Acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
From a study that was published in 2020, from over 19 749 pregnant women, the Acupuncture group had no still births and the control group had 0.035% of pregnancies resulted in stillbirths. In pregnancy, acupuncture therapy may be a safe therapeutic modality for relieving discomfort without an adverse outcome.
From Dr Scott’s experience, he has never seen any adverse events during pregnancy from the treatment of Acupuncture.
Does moxibustion and Acupuncture correct Breech babies?
A systematic review and Analysis of all the peer reviewed articles in 2021, on the correction of breech babies using Acupuncture and moxibustion, this was the conclusion. Our findings suggest that moxibustion therapy has positive effects on correcting breech presentation, especially in the Asian population.
What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion is the burning of a weed called Mugwort, to stimulate blood flow into an area, stimulating blood flow also stimulates neurons locally but also away from the local area of application of the moxibustion. Hovering the light moxa stick over the appropriate area produces heat. Over time the area gets hot and then the moxa stick is withdrawn from the area of the skin.
